Biz Buzz – Thank You for Being Late
Thank You for Being Late
Thank You for Being Late is a best-selling book by Thomas Friedman, renown business futurist and New York Time columnist. The book is more about the subtitle – An Optimist’s Guide to Thriving in the Age of Acceleration. Ray and Zen discuss the key points of the book and make available Ray’s Crib Notes… You don’t have to read 500 pages, just listen in and download the crib notes.
This book is about the acceleration of change due to Technology, Mother Nature and Society. The author discusses the distributions and possible cures to handle and benefit from the distributions. The following quote describes the book thesis in a “nutshell.”
“We’re entering an age of acceleration. The models underlying society at every level, which are largely based on a linear model of change, are going to have to be redefined. Because of the explosive power of the exponential growth, the twenty-first century will be equivalent to 20,000 years of progress at today’s rate of progress; organization have to be able to redefine themselves at a faster and faster pace. Ray Kurzweil, director of engineering at Google.
The author argues that we are living through one of the greatest inflection points in history. The three largest forces on the planet—technology, globalization, and climate change. As a result, so many aspects of our societies, workplaces, and geopolitics are being reshaped and need to be reimagined. When there is a change in the pace of change, in so many realms at once, as we’re now experiencing, it is easy to get overwhelmed by it all. The feeling being engendered now among a lot of people is that of always being in this state of acceleration.
